My Blog
Musings of a New Zealand mixed media & textile artist
Yes, the title of the previous post should have read 'Flax Flowers" Well done to observant people. As my mother often said..".less haste, more speed. "Ok , so mother was right again.Sorry for any confusion. A gorgeous Nelson sunset by way of apology to you all.
![]() Arts Council Nelson has been tasked with organising the creation of the 2500 flax flowers needed to create this installation on Armistice Day 11th November. We have worksheets available and can help to source flax for anyone in the Nelson area who is interested in helping us.We would love to hear from you. I am developing a new class based on the wonderful paintings of Cezanne. We will hand paint fabrics and draw back into them, and then use both hand and machine stitching to enhance the piece and bring it to 'life'. This is an image of the early stage.
I love Cezanne's work and feel that his brush strokes and colour palette will work well for this class. I spent yesterday afternoon with a clever lady who is helping me to freshen up the whole look of my website. It is so clever watching techy people navigate the IT world. Watch out for the new updated look.Coming soon. In the meantime I am posting a photo of a sample from my 2 Day 'Print to Stitch' class. Spend a day creating interesting fabric from your own stamps, stencils and next day make a small art panel with it.
I have been locked out of my website since May, but all should now be on track again. Watch this space!. I am posting a small mixed media piece I recently completed.
As the weather has cooled I am in my studio creating some new class samples. These are a couple of pages from a mixed media book I am making.so much fun to just relax and see what happens. Paper casting, pockets, embossing, stitch and beading...anything goes!
Not long now until the wonderful Hanmer Springs Autumn Art School (11-20 may). I am offering three different classes, so sure to be something to enjoy. The scenery will be wonderful as I am sure there will be some snow on the mountains after the latest cold spell...but the welcome will be warm and the classes are both fun and interesting.
One of my newest classes 'The Scripted Journey' is a great way to free up your art practice and enjoy some creative mark making. Hello to you all. Life has been busy here and now it is time for you to think about how you will develop your creativity for 2018. I have several interesting opportunities available for you to join me in beautiful surroundings. See details on my 'upcoming events page'. I love the opportunity to share my knowledge and enjoy working with some fabulous students.
The image is of a small book I made using Cas Holmes style of creating my own paper before stitching into it to create a little nature book. |
